Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Paraguay. Airlines at check-in may enforce a 6-month validity rule, but Paraguay's immigration law only requires validity through your departure date.Required
Return or onward ticket
Recommended
Immigration officers at Silvio Pettirossi Airport in Asunción routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return ticket or a bus ticket out of Paraguay ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Recommended
Have your hotel booking or host's address and phone number ready. Officers occasionally ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you can support yourself. Paraguay does not publish a minimum amount, but having access to roughly $50–$100 USD per day covers you if asked.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Paraguay. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you won't be allowed to fly.
Keep a copy of your entry stamp
Take a photo of your entry stamp as soon as you get it. If you lose your passport or need to prove your legal stay, that photo is your backup.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU)
Most visitors fly into Asunción. After landing, follow signs to 'Migración' (Immigration). There are usually two queues: one for Paraguayan citizens and one for foreigners. Join the foreigners queue.
2
Present your passport and documents
Hand over your passport (valid 6+ months) and your return/onward ticket. The officer may also ask for proof of accommodation. Answer any questions clearly — they're usually routine.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before walking away — make sure the dates are correct.
4
Collect luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel. Customs is usually a green/red channel system. If you have nothing to declare, go through the green channel.

Frequently asked questions

No, the 90-day visa-free stay is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to leave Paraguay (e.g., cross into Argentina or Brazil) and re-enter, which resets the 90-day clock. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban.
No, there is no official requirement for Spanish passport holders. However, if you've recently been in a country with yellow fever (e.g., Brazil, Bolivia), you may be asked for proof of vaccination. Check with your airline before departure.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or entry by Paraguayan immigration. The 6-month validity rule is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before traveling.
Technically, the visa-free entry is for tourism or business visits (meetings, conferences). Remote work for a foreign employer is in a gray area — many digital nomads do it without issues, but it's not officially permitted. For long-term remote work, consider a digital nomad visa if available.
No, there is no arrival declaration required for Spanish passport holders. You just show up with your passport and documents. No pre-registration or online form needed.
Overstaying can result in a fine (around 100,000 PYG per day, roughly €12) and potential difficulties when leaving. In serious cases, you could be banned from re-entering Paraguay for a period. Always leave before your stamp expires.
Yes, you can enter by land at any official border crossing. The same visa-free rules apply — just present your passport and onward ticket. Land crossings may have longer queues, so plan extra time.
