Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Taiwan. Taiwan does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but some airlines may still ask for it — check with your carrier before check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Taiwan
Immigration officers at Taoyuan Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight booking ready. This applies even for short stays.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a hotel booking. Have a printed confirmation or a digital copy on your phone. A simple hostel or hotel reservation works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Immigration rarely asks for this, but carry a credit card or bank statement showing at least 20,000 TWD (roughly €600) available. Having it ready avoids delays if questioned.Recommended
Arrival card still in use
Taiwan still uses paper arrival cards on some flights. Fill it out legibly — keep the departure card with your passport. You'll need it when you leave.
No extension possible
The 90-day visa-free stay cannot be extended under any circumstances. If you need more time, apply for a visitor visa before you travel. Overstaying even a day can cause problems.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) or other entry point
Most Finns fly into TPE. Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will check your passport validity, stamp you in, and you're good for up to 90 days.
2
Fill out arrival card (if required)
You may be given an arrival card on the plane or at immigration. Fill it out with your flight number, passport details, and accommodation address. Keep the departure portion with your passport.
3
Proceed to baggage claim and customs
After immigration, collect your luggage and walk through customs. Green channel if you have nothing to declare, red channel if you have restricted items (e.g., alcohol over 1 litre, cash over $10,000 USD equivalent).
