Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Thailand
Your passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from the day you leave Thailand. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding. Immigration at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang also enforces this strictly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Outbound flight within 60 days
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of a flight leaving Thailand within your 60-day visa-free stay. Budget airlines at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang are especially strict — they may refuse boarding without a confirmed onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound booking ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers sometimes ask for your first night's hotel confirmation or a host's address in Thailand. Have a booking confirmation or an invitation letter from your host ready to show. A simple screenshot of your hotel reservation works.Recommended
Proof of funds
20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family
Immigration can ask you to show cash, a bank statement, or a credit card with sufficient limit. The official threshold is 20,000 THB per person (about €520) or 40,000 THB per family. Carry a mix of cash and a card to be safe.Recommended
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)TDAC: Thailand Digital Arrival Card — a free 2-minute online pre-registration at tdac.immigration.go.th. Not mandatory, but gets you through the immigration queue faster.
Online pre-registration — optional but faster queue
TDAC is a free 2-minute online form at tdac.immigration.go.th where you enter your passport, flight, and accommodation details. It is not mandatory, but completing it before you fly gives you a QR code that lets you use the faster immigration lane at major airports. Fill it out within 72 hours before your arrival.Register on TDACOptional
Overstay is expensive and risky
Overstay fines are 500 THB per day, but if you overstay more than 90 days, you face a 1-year ban from Thailand. Set a reminder to leave on time.
TDAC saves time at the airport
Fill out the Thailand Digital Arrival Card at https://tdac.immigration.go.th before you fly. It's free and lets you use the express lane at immigration.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you leave, check your passport validity (6+ months), book your return/onward ticket, and arrange your first night accommodation. Fill out the TDAC online if you want to skip the queue.
2
At the departure airport
The airline check-in agent will verify your passport and onward ticket. They may also ask for proof of accommodation. Have these ready on your phone or printed.
3
Arrival at a Thai airport
At Suvarnabhumi (BKK), Phuket (HKT), or Don Mueang (DMK), follow signs to 'Passport Control' for foreigners. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. If you completed the TDAC, show the QR code. The officer will stamp you in for up to 60 days.
4
After immigration
Collect your luggage and proceed through customs. There's usually nothing to declare for personal items. Then you're free to exit the arrivals hall.

Overstay costs 500 THB per day (about €13), paid at the immigration office or airport before departure. Overstay of 90+ days can get you banned from re-entering Thailand for a year. Avoid it.
No, there is no official requirement for Finnish passport holders to show proof of funds. But if an officer suspects you can't support yourself, they may ask. Having a credit card or a few hundred euros in cash is sensible.
Yes, there's no official limit. But if you do multiple back-to-back stays (e.g., leave for a weekend and return), immigration may question your intentions. Have a clear travel plan.
You will be denied boarding by the airline and denied entry by Thai immigration. Renew your passport before you travel. No exceptions.
