Finnish passport holders can get a visa on arrival in Cambodia. You pay in cash at the airport and receive a 30-day tourist visa. This has been the standard procedure for Finnish travellers for years.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply at evisa.gov.kh at least 3 business days before departure. The eVisa costs $30 USD, covers a single entry, and is valid for 90 days from issue. Print the approval letter and bring a passport photo — immigration will staple it into your passport on arrival.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for 6 months beyond arrival
Your Finnish passport must have at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry into Cambodia. Immigration at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap airports checks this strictly — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Cambodia
Airlines and immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return flight within your visa validity. Have a printed or digital copy of your ticket ready — budget carriers are especially strict about this at check-in.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration rarely asks for it, but airlines may request a hotel reservation or host address at check-in. Have a printed booking confirmation or a digital copy on your phone.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Carry at least $300 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration officers rarely check this for Finnish passport holders, but having cash on hand helps if you need to pay the visa-on-arrival fee ($30 USD) in cash.Recommended
Cash only at visa counter
The visa on arrival counter only accepts cash — no cards. Bring $30-$35 USD in crisp, undamaged bills. ATMs are available after immigration, but you need cash before that.
Photo booth available
If you forget your passport photo, both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap airports have photo booths near the visa counter. They cost about $5 USD. But it's cheaper and faster to bring your own.

What happens at the border

1
Fill out arrival form
On the plane or at the airport, grab an arrival card and visa application form. Fill them out in capital letters. You'll need your passport number, flight details, and accommodation address.
2
Queue at Visa on Arrival counter
At Phnom Penh (PNH) or Siem Reap (REP) airports, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival'. Hand over your passport, completed form, photo, and $30. The officer will process it and call your name.
3
Collect passport with visa sticker
Wait a few minutes. Your passport will be returned with a visa sticker inside. Check the dates are correct (30 days from entry).
4
Proceed to immigration
Join the passport control queue. Present your passport with the visa sticker, the arrival card, and your boarding pass. The officer will stamp you in.

Frequently asked questions

A 30-day tourist visa costs $30 USD. A business visa (also 30 days) costs $35 USD. Pay in cash — US dollars are preferred. Bring crisp, undamaged bills; torn or marked notes may be refused.
No, the visa on arrival is not extendable. If you want to stay longer than 30 days, you'll need to leave the country and re-enter, or apply for a different visa type before you travel (like an ordinary visa from a Cambodian embassy).
Visa on arrival is available at major land border crossings like Poipet (from Thailand) and Bavet (from Vietnam). The process is similar — same fee, same requirements. But expect longer queues and more paperwork at land borders.
If you stay airside and don't pass immigration, you don't need a visa. But if you need to enter the country (e.g., to switch terminals or for a long layover), you'll need a visa on arrival or an e-visa.
Yes, Cambodia offers an e-visa for Finnish citizens. It costs $36 USD and takes about 3 business days to process. You apply online at evisa.gov.kh. The e-visa is valid for 30 days and is only for entry via Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, or Sihanoukville airports, plus a few land borders.
Overstay fines are $10 USD per day, capped at $500 USD. You pay at immigration when you leave. It's not worth the hassle — set a reminder to leave before day 30.
No, it's not required for entry. But it's strongly recommended. Medical care in Cambodia can be expensive for serious issues, and evacuation to Bangkok or Singapore costs thousands. Get a policy that covers medical evacuation.
