Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for duration of stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Macau. Immigration officers at Macau International Airport check this at the counter — they don't enforce a 6-month validity rule for UK passport holders.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Macau
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a hotel booking. Have a printed confirmation or a digital copy on your phone.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Carry evidence of enough funds for your stay — a bank statement or credit card works. Immigration rarely checks this for UK passport holders, but it's safer to have it ready.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. If it's even a day short, you will be refused boarding by the airline or denied entry at immigration. Check your passport now, not at the airport.
No visa needed — but have documents ready
You don't need a visa, but immigration may ask for your return ticket and accommodation confirmation. Keep digital copies on your phone or printouts in your hand luggage.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Macau International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'. There are separate queues for Macau residents and visitors. Join the 'Visitors' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present your passport to the immigration officer
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your passport validity, may ask for your return ticket and accommodation confirmation. Answer any questions clearly (e.g., purpose of visit, length of stay).
3
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the number of days you're allowed to stay (up to 180). Check the stamp before leaving the counter — if it's wrong, ask for a correction immediately.
4
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, go to the baggage claim area. Then walk through the green channel if you have nothing to declare, or the red channel if you have goods to declare. No arrival declaration form is needed.
