What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa Online
Go to indianvisaonline.gov.in, fill out the application, upload a passport-style photo and your passport data page. Pay the fee (around $25 for 30-day tourist eVisa). Processing takes 3-5 business days. You'll receive an approval email — save it.
2
Prepare Your Documents
Print or save on your phone: eVisa approval, return ticket, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance. Keep your passport accessible — you'll need it at check-in and immigration.
3
Arrive at Indian Immigration
At the airport, join the 'Foreigner' queue. Hand over your passport and boarding pass. The officer will scan your passport and verify your eVisa. They may ask for your return ticket or hotel address. Answer clearly. You'll get an entry stamp — that's it.
4
Collect Your Baggage and Exit
After immigration, collect your luggage from the carousel, then proceed to customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. Exit into the arrivals hall.

Frequently asked questions

Processing usually takes 3-5 business days. Apply at least a week before your trip to be safe. The fee is around $25 for a 30-day tourist eVisa, payable online by credit card.
No, the eVisa is not extendable. You must leave India before it expires. If you need to stay longer, you'd have to apply for a different visa type (like a regular tourist visa) from a Greek embassy before traveling.
You cannot use that passport for the eVisa. Renew your passport first, then apply. The 6-month validity is counted from your arrival date in India.
A digital copy (on your phone or tablet) is usually accepted at immigration. But having a printed backup is safer — phone batteries die and screens break. Print one copy and keep it with your passport.
Yes, the eVisa is valid for entry at 28 designated airports, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad. It's also valid at 5 major seaports. Check the official list before booking flights.
Rejections are rare for Greek citizens, but if it happens, you'll get an email explaining why. Common reasons: incorrect photo, mismatched passport details, or criminal record. You can reapply after fixing the issue, or apply for a regular visa at the Indian embassy in Athens.
If you stay airside and don't pass immigration, you don't need a visa. But if you need to leave the airport or have a long layover (over 24 hours), you'll need an eVisa or a transit visa. Check with your airline for specific rules.
