Passport validity is strictly enforced
Turkish immigration requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before you travel — no exceptions.
90-day limit resets after 180 days
The 90-day visa-free stay is per 180-day rolling period. If you stay 90 days, you must leave Turkey for at least 90 days before returning. Keep track of your days — overstaying even by one day can cause problems.
What happens at the border

Prepare documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months beyond entry date). Book a return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save screenshots of both on your phone. Consider getting travel insurance and a local eSIM.

Arrive at Turkish airport or land border
At Istanbul Airport (IST), Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), or any land border, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' or 'Yabancı Pasaport'. Queue in the visa-free line — no separate visa counter needed.

Present passport to immigration officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, how long you're staying, and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with the entry date and allowed stay.

Collect luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim (if any), then customs. Green channel for most tourists — no goods to declare. Exit into the arrivals hall.
