Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Greek passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Taiwan. Taiwan does not enforce a 6-month validity rule for visa-free entry, but airlines may still check for at least 6 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Outbound travel proof
Immigration officers at Taoyuan Airport routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready — budget airlines sometimes check this at check-in too.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel reservation, hostel booking, or a letter from your host in Taiwan. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Have access to at least 20,000 TWD (around €600) in cash, a credit card, or a recent bank statement. Immigration may ask how you plan to fund your stay — a quick bank app screenshot works fine.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. If it's even one day short, you'll be denied boarding by the airline. Check your passport now, not at the airport.
No visa, but still need a return ticket
Even though you don't need a visa, immigration will ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward ticket ready. A screenshot on your phone is fine.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you leave, check your passport validity (6+ months), print or save your return ticket, and have your first night's accommodation address ready. Download a local eSIM or SIM card plan.
2
Arrive at Taoyuan or Kaohsiung airport
Most flights land at Taipei Taoyuan (TPE) or Kaohsiung (KHH). Follow signs to 'Foreigners' immigration. Queues are usually 10–20 minutes.
3
Present your passport and documents
Hand over your passport and any requested documents (return ticket, accommodation). The officer will scan your passport, take a photo, and stamp you in. No fingerprints are taken for Greek citizens.
4
Receive your entry stamp
You'll get a stamp valid for up to 90 days. Check the date written on the stamp — that's your last allowed day. Keep the stamp visible in your passport.
5
Exit the airport
After immigration, collect your luggage and proceed through customs. There's usually nothing to declare for personal items. Taxis, buses, and the MRT (metro) are available at both airports.
