Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Myanmar eVisa at the official Ministry of Immigration portal. Processing takes 3–5 working days, and you'll receive an approval letter via email. Print the letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Yangon and Mandalay airports checks it before stamping entry.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have 6 months validity
Your Hong Kong passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry into Myanmar. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Yangon and Mandalay airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Immigration may ask where you're staying. Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in Myanmar. If you're staying at a guesthouse, a simple booking printout works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers rarely ask, but having a bank statement or credit card showing at least $300 USD equivalent avoids any hassle. ATMs in Myanmar dispense local currency (kyat), but bring some USD cash as backup.Recommended
No visa on arrival for HK passport holders
Unlike some other nationalities, Hong Kong passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival at Myanmar airports. You must have an approved eVisa before you fly.
eVisa only valid for air entry
The eVisa is only valid for entry by air at Yangon (RGN), Mandalay (MDL), or Naypyidaw (NYT) airports. If you plan to enter by land from Thailand or China, you need a different visa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to https://evisa.moip.gov.mm/ and fill in the application. You'll need a digital passport photo and a credit/debit card. Processing takes 3 business days — don't book flights until you get the approval.
2
Print or save eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get a PDF via email. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. Immigration at Yangon International Airport (RGN) or Mandalay International Airport (MDL) will ask to see it.
3
Arrival at immigration
At the airport, go to the 'eVisa' lane. Hand over your passport, eVisa printout (or phone), and boarding pass. They'll stamp you in for up to 28 days. No separate arrival card needed.
