Croatian passport holders need a visa to enter Kenya in 2026. You must apply online for an eVisa before you travel — there are no visa-on-arrival options for tourism. The process is straightforward, but you'll need a few documents ready.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before departure
You need a Kenya eVisa before you fly. Apply at the official eTA portal — the process takes about 15 minutes and costs around $30 USD. Approval usually comes within 2–3 business days, so apply at least a week before your trip.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
6 months validity required
Your Croatian passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Kenya. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at JKIA ask for proof of onward travel — a return flight or a ticket to your next destination. Have a printed or digital copy ready. Budget airlines sometimes check this before issuing a boarding pass.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Officers may ask where you are staying. Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from your host with their address and phone number. A printed copy works best.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough funds for your stay. There is no fixed minimum, but around $500 USD for a short trip is a safe benchmark. Immigration rarely asks, but it can come up.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no exceptions
Kenya no longer offers visa-on-arrival for tourism. You must have an approved eVisa before you fly. Airlines will check it at check-in. If you don't have one, you won't board.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Kenya, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying for the eVisa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to www.etakenya.go.ke, create an account, fill in the application, upload your passport photo and passport scan, and pay the fee (around $30–$50 depending on visa type). Processing takes 2–3 business days.
2
Receive eVisa approval
You'll get an email with your eVisa PDF. Print a copy and save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and upon arrival in Kenya.
3
Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) or Moi International Airport (MBA)
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration'. Join the queue for 'Foreign Passports'. Have your passport, eVisa printout, return ticket, and accommodation booking ready. The officer will stamp you in — usually a 30-second process.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel.

Frequently asked questions

No. Kenya removed visa-on-arrival for most nationalities in 2021. You must have an approved eVisa before you board your flight.
The standard single-entry tourist eVisa costs around $30–$50 USD, depending on the current exchange rate. You pay online by credit or debit card during the application.
Processing usually takes 2–3 business days. Apply at least a week before your trip to be safe. Occasionally it can take longer, so don't leave it to the last minute.
The standard tourist eVisa allows a stay of up to 90 days. Extensions are possible but not automatic — you'd need to visit immigration offices in Nairobi or Mombasa.
Kenya requires a yellow fever vaccination certificate if you're arriving from a country with yellow fever risk. If you're flying directly from Croatia, you don't need it. But if you've recently been in a risk country, get the vaccine and carry the certificate.
Yes, but you need to apply for an extension at the Department of Immigration in Nairobi or Mombasa before your visa expires. It's not guaranteed and costs extra. Plan ahead.
You'll be denied entry and put on the next flight back. Airlines also check for the eVisa at check-in, so you won't even board. Don't risk it.
