Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire period you plan to stay in Macau. Croatia passport holders get 90 days visa-free, so your passport needs to cover those 90 days. Airlines at Zagreb or connecting hubs may ask for 6 months validity — check with your carrier before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Macau
Immigration at Macau International Airport routinely asks for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking out of Macau within the 90-day visa-free period. Budget airlines checking in at the airport may also require this before issuing a boarding pass.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Keep a copy of your hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Macau. Border officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do. Casinos and resorts often require a booking confirmation for check-in anyway.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Carry evidence of enough funds for your trip — bank statements, credit card, or cash. Macau doesn't publish a fixed minimum, but having around 5,000 MOP (~620 USD) or a credit card with available limit covers most scenarios. Immigration may ask if you look under-resourced.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Macau, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew it before you travel.
Overstaying is costly
The 90-day visa-free stay cannot be extended. Overstaying even by a day can result in fines and a ban from re-entering Macau. Set a reminder to leave on time.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Print or save confirmations on your phone. Arrange travel insurance and a local SIM/eSIM if you want.
2
Arrive at Macau International Airport (MFM)
After landing, follow signs to Immigration. There are separate queues for Macau residents and visitors. Join the 'Visitors' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
3
Present your passport at the immigration counter
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask about your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They may also ask to see your return ticket or hotel booking. You'll receive an entry stamp valid for up to 90 days.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After clearing immigration, proceed to baggage claim. Then head through customs (usually a green channel for most visitors). You're now in Macau.
