Visa on arrival
Get your visa on arrival at Maputo International Airport (MPM) and other land borders. Pay the fee in cash (USD or local currency) — have the exact amount ready. The visa is valid for 30 days and is not extendable.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Passport validity
Your Hungarian passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Mozambique. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Maputo airport ask for a return or onward ticket before granting entry. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone. A flight booking confirmation works — it does not need to be a paid ticket.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host in Mozambique. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays at the immigration counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient funds for stay
Have at least $500 USD in cash or a credit card statement showing available funds. Immigration may ask how you plan to support yourself during your stay — show a bank statement or cash.Recommended
Cash only for visa on arrival
The visa fee must be paid in cash — no cards, no mobile payments. Have 650 MZN (or about €10 in US dollars) ready in small bills. ATMs are available after immigration, but you'll need cash before that.
Visa on arrival is straightforward
Hungarian passport holders have been getting visa on arrival in Mozambique since 2024. The process is quick and reliable at major entry points. No need to apply in advance unless you want a multiple-entry visa.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration counter
At Maputo International Airport (MPM) or any other port of entry, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. There's usually a separate queue for visa-on-arrival applicants.
2
Present documents and pay fee
Hand over your passport, completed arrival card (given on the plane), return ticket, and accommodation proof. Pay the 650 MZN fee in cash. The officer will issue a visa sticker and stamp you in.
3
Collect passport and proceed
The whole process takes 10–20 minutes. Check the visa sticker for your allowed stay (usually 30 days). Then head to baggage claim and customs.
