Indonesian passport holders must obtain a visa before traveling to the United Kingdom. There is no visa-on-arrival or e-visa option for Indonesian citizens, so you need to apply through a British embassy or consulate. The process requires an in-person appointment and can take several weeks, so start early.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
UK VisaYou cannot get a UK visa on arrival or through an eVisa — you must apply at a British embassy or consulate before you fly.
Apply at British embassy/consulate
Indonesian citizens must obtain a UK Standard Visitor visa before travel. Apply online via the official UK Visas and Immigration portal, then attend a biometric appointment at a visa application centre. Processing can take 3 weeks or more, so apply well in advance.Required
Passport validityIf your passport expires within 6 months of leaving the UK, you may be denied boarding or entry.
At least 6 months
Your Indonesian passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your intended date of departure from the UK. Check your passport's expiry date now.Required
Blank passport pagesThe blank page is needed for the entry stamp — without it, you could be refused entry.
At least 1 blank page
Your passport must have at least 1 blank page (not counting the endorsement pages) for the UK Border Force to stamp your entry. Ensure no pages are torn or damaged.Required
Return or onward ticketYou must show you plan to leave the UK — a return or onward ticket is standard proof.
Proof of departure
Carry a printed or digital copy of your return flight to Indonesia or an onward ticket to another country. The UK Border Force may ask to see it as evidence you intend to leave within your visa's validity.Required
Proof of fundsBorder officers need to see you won't work illegally or become a burden on public funds.
Sufficient money for your stay
Be ready to show bank statements, payslips, or a sponsor letter proving you can support yourself (and any dependents) during your stay in the UK. There is no fixed amount, but it must cover accommodation, food, and return travel.Required
Accommodation detailsHaving accommodation proof speeds up the border process and shows you have a genuine visit plan.
Where you'll stay
Have your hotel booking, invitation letter from a UK resident, or proof of your own property ready. This is often requested at border control to verify your visit's purpose.Recommended
Travel insuranceInsurance protects you from unexpected costs — it's not required but wise.
Medical and trip coverage
Although not mandatory, comprehensive travel insurance covering medical treatment, trip cancellation, and baggage is strongly advised. The UK has no free healthcare for visitors, and medical costs can be very high.Recommended
Arrival declarationYou don't need to fill out any arrival form before landing in the UK.
Not required
The UK does not require an arrival declaration or passenger locator form for Indonesian citizens as of 2026. No pre-arrival online form is needed. Not required
eVisa applicationThe UK's eVisa system is not open to Indonesian passport holders — stick to the embassy route.
Not applicable
Indonesian citizens are not eligible for the UK eVisa scheme. Do not attempt to apply online for an eVisa — you must go through the standard visa application process at a British embassy or consulate. Not required
No e-visa or visa-on-arrival for Indonesian citizens
Despite the UK having an online visa system for some nationalities, Indonesian passport holders are NOT eligible. You must apply through the standard embassy/consulate route with an in-person biometric appointment. Don't fall for third-party websites offering 'fast-track' e-visas — they're scams.
Plan ahead — 3 weeks minimum
Standard processing takes 3 weeks, but it's wise to apply at least 6-8 weeks before your planned departure. Peak seasons (May–September) can push processing times to 5-6 weeks. Book your appointment early to avoid disappointment.

What happens at the border

1
Complete the online application
Go to the UK Visas and Immigration website, create an account, and fill out the visa application form. You'll need your passport details, travel plans, and employment information. Pay the £115 fee online.
2
Book your biometric appointment
After paying, you'll be directed to book an appointment at a UK Visa Application Centre in Jakarta, Surabaya, or Medan. Choose a date that gives you at least 3 weeks before your planned travel.
3
Attend the appointment
Arrive 15 minutes early with your printed appointment confirmation, passport, and supporting documents. You'll give fingerprints and a photo. The staff will also scan your documents and may ask questions about your trip.
4
Wait for a decision
Standard processing takes 3 weeks from the appointment date. You'll get an email when a decision is made. Your passport will be returned via courier or you can collect it from the VAC.
5
Travel to the UK
Once you have your visa, check the vignette (sticker) in your passport for the validity dates. At UK border control, present your passport and be ready to answer questions about your visit. Have your accommodation and return flight details handy.
