Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Schengen visa application
Apply at the Norwegian embassy or visa application centre
You need a Schengen visa before traveling to Norway. Apply at the Norwegian embassy or VFS Global centre in Jakarta. Submit your application at least 15 days before departure — processing takes up to 15 calendar days.Apply for visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from Schengen area
Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen zone. It also needs at least two blank pages. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration at Oslo Airport will ask for a return or onward ticket out of the Schengen zone. A flight to a non-Schengen country works — a bus or train ticket to Sweden does not. Budget airlines like Ryanair and Norwegian enforce this strictly at check-in.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a hotel booking confirmation or an invitation letter from your host in Norway ready. Immigration officers at Gardermoen occasionally ask for it, especially if you're staying with friends or family.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Carry at least 500 NOK per day of your stay in cash or a credit card statement. Immigration rarely asks for it for short visits, but having a bank statement or card with sufficient limit avoids delays.Recommended
Transit visa required even for airside connections
Indonesian passport holders need an airport transit visa to change flights in Norway, even if you stay airside. Exceptions: if you hold a valid Schengen visa or residence permit, or a valid visa for the UK, USA, Canada, Japan, or Ireland.
Travel insurance is mandatory for visa application
You must have travel insurance covering medical expenses up to €30,000 and repatriation for the entire Schengen area. This is a requirement for the visa application, not just a recommendation.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a Schengen visa
Book an appointment at the Norwegian embassy or VFS Global centre in Jakarta. Fill out the online application form on the UDI website, pay the €80 fee, and submit your passport, photos, travel insurance, flight itinerary, and accommodation proof. Processing takes up to 15 calendar days.
2
Arrive at Oslo Airport (OSL)
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control' for non-EU travellers. Have your passport, visa sticker, return ticket, and accommodation details ready. The officer may ask about your purpose of visit and length of stay. Answer clearly. The queue can take 15–45 minutes.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim. There are no customs checks for personal items under 10,000 NOK. Exit through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel unless you have goods to declare.
