Indonesian passport holders need an eVisa to visit India in 2026. The eVisa covers tourism, business, and medical visits, and you must apply online before you travel.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for an Indian eVisa at indianvisaonline.gov.in at least 4 days before departure. Fees range from $25 to $80 USD depending on the visa type (tourist, business, medical). Approval usually comes within 72 hours — print the approval email and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for 6 months beyond your stay
Your Indonesian passport needs at least 6 months of validity remaining from your date of entry into India. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from India
Immigration officers at Indian airports routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready — they may check it before stamping your entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter from your host in India. Immigration rarely asks for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing at least $300–$500 USD available. Officers rarely request it, but it helps if you look under-budgeted.Recommended
eVisa is for tourism, business, or medical visits only
You cannot work or study on an eVisa. If you plan to work, study, or volunteer, you need a different visa from the Indian embassy in Jakarta.
Apply early — no walk-in eVisa at the airport
There is no visa-on-arrival for Indonesian passport holders. You must have the eVisa approved before you board your flight. Last-minute applications may not be processed in time.
eSIMs save time at the airport
Instead of queuing for a local SIM at the airport, buy an Airalo eSIM before you travel. It activates automatically when you land and gives you instant data.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the official Indian eVisa website (indianvisaonline.gov.in). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $25-$100 depending on duration). You'll receive an approval email within 3-5 business days.
2
Pack your documents
Print your eVisa approval email or save it on your phone. Also print or save your flight itinerary, hotel booking, and travel insurance certificate. Keep your passport handy.
3
Arrive at Indian immigration
At the airport, follow signs for 'Foreigners' or 'eVisa' counters. Present your passport and eVisa approval. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel address. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with an entry stamp valid for up to 60 days (for tourist eVisa).
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your checked luggage from the carousel. Then proceed through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're free to enter India.
