Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Tajikistan. Airlines at check-in may ask for at least 6 months validity beyond your departure date — if your passport expires sooner, carry a printed copy of the Tajik visa policy page from mfa.tj to show the airline.Required
Return or onward ticket
Recommended for visa-free entry
Immigration officers at Dushanbe International Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready. Overland border crossings are less strict, but still carry it.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Tajikistan. Border officers occasionally ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked hotel.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Have at least $50 USD per day of stay available in cash or on a card. Tajikistan is a cash-heavy country — bring USD or EUR to exchange at banks or exchange offices in Dushanbe. ATMs exist but are unreliable outside the capital.Recommended
Register if staying more than 10 days
If your trip exceeds 10 days, you must register with the Migration Service within 10 days of arrival. Hotels handle this automatically, but if you're in private accommodation, you need to visit the local OVIR office. Unregistered stays can lead to fines and exit delays.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save screenshots of your passport info page, return ticket, hotel booking, and insurance policy on your phone. Tajikistan's internet can be unreliable, so offline access is a lifesaver.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save screenshots of both on your phone. Consider getting travel insurance and a local eSIM.
2
Arrive at Dushanbe International Airport (or land border)
Most Indonesian travellers fly into Dushanbe International Airport (DYU). At the immigration hall, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport, boarding pass, and return ticket ready.
3
Present documents to immigration officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking. Answer questions clearly (purpose of visit, length of stay). They'll stamp your passport — check the stamp says the correct entry date and allowed stay (30 days).
4
Collect luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. Customs is usually green channel for most tourists. If you have nothing to declare, walk through. Keep your passport handy — there may be a random check.

You will be denied boarding by the airline and denied entry by Tajik immigration. Renew your passport before you travel.

Not mandatory, but highly recommended. Medical evacuation from remote areas can cost thousands. A basic travel insurance policy covering medical and evacuation is cheap peace of mind.
