Irish passport holders need an eVisa to enter Myanmar. The eVisa covers tourism and business visits, and you apply online before you travel. As of 2026, the eVisa allows a stay of up to 28 days.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Myanmar eVisa at the official Ministry of Immigration portal. The eVisa is valid for tourism (28 days) or business (70 days) and costs around $50 USD. Processing takes 3–5 working days — do not book flights until approved.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have 6 months validity
Your Irish passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Myanmar. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Yangon and Mandalay airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
You may be asked to show where you are staying. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a host in Myanmar works. Keep a copy on your phone or printed.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient cash or card
Officers sometimes ask how you will support yourself. Carry at least $300 USD equivalent in cash or have a bank statement ready. ATMs in Myanmar are unreliable outside major cities.Recommended
eVisa is not extendable
The eVisa allows a maximum stay of 28 days and cannot be extended. If you overstay, you'll be fined $3 USD per day at immigration when you leave. Plan your trip carefully.
Keep a digital copy of your eVisa
Save a PDF of your eVisa approval on your phone in case you lose the printed copy. Immigration can accept a digital version, but a printout is smoother.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your eVisa online
Go to the official Myanmar eVisa website (evisa.moip.gov.mm). Fill in your personal details, passport info, and travel dates. Upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $50 USD for tourism) with a credit or debit card. You'll receive a confirmation email. Processing usually takes 3–5 working days, but apply at least a week before to be safe.
2
Print or save your eVisa approval letter
Once approved, you'll get an email with your eVisa approval letter. Print a copy and also save a digital version on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and at immigration in Myanmar.
3
Prepare your documents for departure
Before heading to the airport, double-check: passport valid 6+ months, printed eVisa, return ticket, and first night hotel booking. Keep them all in your hand luggage.
4
Arrive at Yangon, Mandalay, or Naypyidaw airport
Most international flights arrive at Yangon International Airport (RGN). Follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Foreign Passports'. Join the queue for eVisa holders. Have your passport, eVisa, and boarding pass ready. The officer will stamp you in — usually takes 2–5 minutes.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. There's a customs declaration if you're carrying large amounts of cash or restricted items. Otherwise, walk through the green channel and you're in Myanmar.
