Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Irish passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Palestine. Border officers at the Allenby Bridge crossing and Ben Gurion Airport check this closely. Airlines may also ask to see your passport before boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Palestine/Israel
Immigration at the Allenby Bridge crossing and Ben Gurion Airport routinely asks for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or bus ticket out of the region. Without one, you may be refused entry.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers sometimes ask where you're staying, especially if you're entering via the Allenby Bridge. Have a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Booking.com or Airbnb confirmations work fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Immigration may ask how much cash you're carrying or if you have access to funds. Carry at least $500 USD equivalent in cash or have a bank statement showing available balance. ATMs in the West Bank are unreliable.Recommended
Entry via Israel only
There is no international airport in the West Bank. You must enter through Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) in Israel. The Israeli border authorities control all access. Be prepared for questioning and have your documents ready.
Keep your blue entry slip
When you enter Israel, you'll receive a small blue slip. Do not lose it — you must hand it back when you leave. Without it, departure can be delayed.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Ben Gurion Airport (Tel Aviv)
Most travellers to Palestine fly into Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) in Israel. After landing, follow signs to passport control. You'll queue in the 'Foreign Passports' line. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation booking ready. The officer may ask about your plans — answer clearly and briefly. You'll receive a blue entry slip (keep it safe — you need it to leave).
2
Crossing into Palestine via checkpoints
From Ben Gurion, you can take a shared taxi (sherut) or private taxi to the West Bank. At the checkpoint (e.g., Qalandia or Bethlehem), Israeli soldiers may ask for your passport and entry slip. They may also ask where you're staying. Answer calmly. After passing, you're in Palestinian territory — no further immigration formalities.
3
Departure from Ben Gurion Airport
When leaving, go to passport control at the airport. Hand over your passport and the blue entry slip. If you lost the slip, tell the officer — they'll issue a replacement (may take extra time). Allow at least 3 hours before your flight for this process.
