Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Taiwan
Your Irish passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your 90-day stay. Taiwan does not enforce a 6-month validity rule for Irish passport holders, but airlines sometimes ask for it — check with your carrier before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Outbound travel proof
Immigration officers at Taoyuan and Kaohsiung airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Keep your hotel confirmation or a letter from your host handy. Officers rarely ask for it, but if they do, a printed booking confirmation is the easiest way to avoid delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Taiwan does not publish a minimum amount, but having access to around NT$10,000 (€300) per day or a credit card with a decent limit covers you. Officers almost never check this for Irish passport holders, but it's smart to have a bank statement or card ready.Recommended
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive. Airlines check this before boarding — if you're short, you won't fly.
No visa, no fee
Irish passport holders enter Taiwan visa-free for up to 90 days. There is no application, no fee, and no paperwork needed in advance.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) or other entry point
You'll go through immigration at the airport. Join the 'Foreigners' queue. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp you in for up to 90 days. No forms to fill in advance.
2
Present documents at immigration counter
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit (tourism), how long you're staying, and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport and you're in.
3
Collect baggage and proceed through customs
After immigration, collect your luggage from the carousel. Customs is usually green channel for most tourists. If you have nothing to declare, walk straight through.
