Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Visa required
You need a visa before traveling to Israel. Apply at the nearest Israeli embassy or consulate — there is no visa on arrival for Iraqi passport holders. Processing times vary, so start at least 4 weeks before your trip.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Israel. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Ben Gurion Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Hotel bookings or a letter of invitation from your host in Israel can speed up the immigration process. Officers may ask where you are staying — having a printed confirmation avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry enough cash or a credit card to cover your stay — roughly 1,500 ILS per week is a safe benchmark. Immigration rarely asks, but having proof avoids being turned away.Recommended
Visa approval is not guaranteed
Iraqi nationals face additional scrutiny. Apply early and be prepared to provide extra documentation if requested. Denials can happen without explanation.
Entry may be refused at the border
Even with an approved visa, Israeli border officials have the final say. Have all your documents ready and be honest about your travel plans.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the visa online
Go to https://israel-entry.piba.gov.il and fill out the application. You'll need your passport details, travel dates, and accommodation info. Upload a digital passport photo. Submit and pay the fee (approx. 100 ILS). Processing can take 2–4 weeks, so apply well in advance.
2
Wait for approval
After submitting, you'll receive a confirmation email. The visa is processed by the Israeli Ministry of Interior. You may be asked for additional documents. Once approved, you'll get a visa approval letter — print it and save a copy on your phone.
3
Prepare your documents for arrival
Before you fly, gather: your passport (valid 6+ months), the visa approval letter, return ticket, accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Keep them in your carry-on. At the airport, you'll go through passport control — hand over your passport and the approval letter. The officer may ask a few questions about your trip.
4
Arrive at Ben Gurion Airport
At Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. Have your documents ready. The officer will stamp your passport (or give you a separate entry card). You'll then collect your luggage and exit. The whole process usually takes 30–60 minutes.
