There are many third-party sites that look official but charge inflated fees. The only official site is https://eta.gov.lk/. Double-check the URL before entering your passport details.
ETA is not extendable
The 30-day tourist ETA cannot be extended in Sri Lanka. If you think you might need more time, consider applying for a longer-stay visa before you travel, or plan to leave and re-enter.
Italians get fast approvals
Italian passport holders have a high approval rate and typically get their ETA within 24 hours. Still, apply at least 3 days ahead to avoid any last-minute stress.

Apply for your ETA online
Go to https://eta.gov.lk/ and fill out the application. Choose 'Tourist ETA'. Pay the fee (around $50 USD for a 30-day stay) with a credit or debit card. You'll get a confirmation email with a reference number.

Wait for approval
Most approvals come through within 24 hours, but allow up to 72 hours. Check your email (including spam) for the approval notice. Print a copy or save it on your phone.

Arrive at the airport in Sri Lanka
At Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) in Colombo, head to the immigration counters. Have your passport, boarding pass, and ETA approval ready. The officer will stamp your passport — that's your entry. No separate visa on arrival process needed.

Proceed to baggage claim
After clearing immigration, collect your bags and go through customs. If you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel.
