Italian passport holders can enter Tajikistan without a visa for stays up to 30 days. This policy started in 2022 and covers tourism, business, and transit. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your entry date.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Tajikistan. Airlines check this at check-in, so verify your passport's expiry date before you fly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Tajikistan
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at Dushanbe airport. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone ready to show.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
You may be asked where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked hotel. A printed booking confirmation or a letter from a host works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Border officers can ask for proof you have enough money for your trip. Carry a bank statement or credit card — no specific minimum amount is published, but having $50–100 per day in cash or card access is a safe bet.Recommended
Visa-free only for 30 days
The 30-day visa-free period starts the day you enter. Overstaying, even by a day, can result in fines and complications when leaving. Set a reminder on your phone.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check this before you board. If your passport has less than 6 months validity, you may be denied boarding even if you have a valid visa. Double-check your passport's expiry date now.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Dushanbe International Airport
Most Italian travellers fly into Dushanbe. After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for Tajik citizens and foreigners. Join the foreigner queue.
2
Present your passport and supporting documents
Hand over your passport (valid 6+ months) and be ready to show your return ticket and accommodation booking. The officer may ask a few questions (purpose of visit, where staying). Answer clearly.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 30-day visa-free entry. Check the stamp says the correct date. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually nothing to declare for personal items. Walk through the green channel if you have nothing to declare.
