Appointments fill up fast
Visa appointments at the German embassy in Amman are often booked weeks in advance. Check the TLScontact website regularly and book as soon as you have your travel dates. Last-minute appointments are rare.
Schengen area rules
A German visa lets you travel to all 27 Schengen countries (France, Italy, Spain, etc.) for up to 90 days. Your first entry must be Germany, or Germany must be your main destination (longest stay). Keep your itinerary handy.

What happens at the border

1
Book your visa appointment
Go to the German embassy in Amman website or the TLScontact visa center site. Appointments fill up weeks ahead — book as early as possible. You'll need to create an account and select 'Schengen visa (short stay)'.
2
Prepare your documents
Gather all required documents: passport, completed application form, photos (35x45mm, white background), flight itinerary, hotel bookings, travel insurance, bank statements, and proof of employment or leave. Make photocopies of everything.
3
Attend the appointment
Show up at the visa application center in Amman (usually TLScontact on Zahran Street) on time. You'll submit documents, pay the fee (€80 for adults, €40 for children 6-12, free for under 6), and give biometrics (fingerprints and photo). The officer may ask about your travel plans.
4
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 15 calendar days. It can take up to 45 days if additional checks are needed. You'll get an SMS or email when your passport is ready for collection.
5
Collect your passport
Return to the visa center with your receipt. Check the visa sticker carefully: make sure your name, dates, and number of entries are correct. If anything is wrong, ask for correction immediately.
6
Enter Germany
At the airport in Germany (Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, etc.), join the 'All Passports' queue. Hand over your passport with the visa. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, where you're staying, how long, and return date. Answer clearly. They rarely ask for documents if you look prepared.

The Schengen visa fee is €80 for adults (about 57 JOD), €40 for children aged 6-12, and free for children under 6. You pay at the visa center in cash or by card. There may be an additional service fee of around 20-30 JOD if you use TLScontact.

Yes, Jordanian passport holders need an airport transit visa (type A) even if you don't leave the international transit area. Apply for this separately — it's cheaper and requires fewer documents than a full Schengen visa.
No, the Schengen short-stay visa is strictly for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Extensions are only granted in exceptional cases (e.g., medical emergency, force majeure). For longer stays, you need a national visa (type D) from the German embassy.
You'll receive a formal rejection letter stating the reason. Common reasons: insufficient funds, unclear travel plans, or weak ties to Jordan. You can appeal within 30 days by writing to the German embassy in Amman. Reapplying with stronger documents is often faster.
Immigration officers in Germany rarely ask for proof of funds if you have a valid visa and look like a genuine tourist. But it's smart to carry a bank statement or credit card statement just in case. The rule is €45 per day of your stay.
