Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Tajikistan. Airlines at check-in will verify this before you board.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Tajikistan
Immigration officers at Dushanbe Airport routinely ask for a printed or digital onward ticket. Have your return flight or next destination booking ready to show.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host. Border officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have access to at least $50 USD per day of your stay. A bank statement or credit card is usually enough if asked.Recommended
Overstay penalties are real
Staying beyond 30 days without an extension can result in a fine of about 100–200 TJS per day and possible deportation. The fine is paid at the Migration Service office in Dushanbe before you leave. Don't risk it — set a reminder to exit on time.
Gorno-Badakhshan permit required
If you plan to visit the Pamir Mountains (Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region), you need a separate permit. This is not covered by the visa-free entry. Apply online at the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs website at least 2 weeks before travel. Cost is around $20.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Dushanbe International Airport
Most Jordanian travellers fly into Dushanbe (DYU). After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. There's a dedicated queue for foreign nationals.
2
Present your passport and ticket
Hand over your passport and the completed arrival card (usually given on the plane). The officer will check your passport validity and may ask for your return ticket. Answer clearly: purpose of visit, length of stay.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with a 30-day visa-free entry. No fee. No separate visa document. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when leaving.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. Green channel if nothing to declare. Red channel if carrying over $10,000 or restricted goods.
