Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Paraguay. Japan does not require 6 months beyond departure, but some airlines may still enforce that rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration at Silvio Pettirossi Airport may ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing you leave Paraguay within 90 days.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host letter
Keep a copy of your hotel reservation or a letter from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Carry a recent bank statement or enough cash to cover your stay. There is no fixed minimum, but showing you can support yourself helps if questioned.Recommended
Overstaying is expensive
Paraguay fines overstayers roughly 100,000 guaraníes (about $13 USD) per day over the 90-day limit. You'll also get a stamp in your passport that can cause issues with future travel.
No visa hassle
Japanese passport holders have one of the easiest entry processes to Paraguay. No visa, no fee, no online form — just show up with a valid passport and a return ticket.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU)
Most flights land in Asunción. Follow signs to 'Migración' (Immigration). There are usually two queues: one for Paraguayan citizens, one for foreigners. Join the foreigners queue.
2
Present your passport and documents
Hand over your passport and any requested documents (return ticket, accommodation). The officer will ask a few basic questions — purpose of visit, length of stay. Answer clearly.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the entry date and the number of days allowed (usually 90). Check the stamp before leaving the counter — make sure the dates are correct.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually a green channel (nothing to declare) and a red channel (goods to declare). If you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel.
