Kenyan passport holders need an eVisa to enter Myanmar. The eVisa covers tourism and business visits, and you must apply online before traveling. As of 2026, the eVisa is the standard entry method for short-term stays.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Myanmar eVisa at the official Ministry of Immigration portal. Processing takes 3–5 business days, and you'll receive an approval letter by email. Print that letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Yangon, Mandalay, and Naypyidaw airports will check it before stamping you in.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have 6 months validity
Your Kenyan passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry into Myanmar. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration at Yangon enforces it strictly. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of a confirmed onward or return flight. Have a printed itinerary or digital booking ready. If you're flying in on a one-way ticket, expect extra questions and possible refusal.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Myanmar. Immigration may ask where you're staying, especially if you're arriving without a pre-booked hotel. A simple booking confirmation works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Have at least $300 USD in cash or a recent bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration rarely asks, but if you look underprepared they may request proof you can support yourself during the stay.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no visa on arrival for Kenyans
Kenyan passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Myanmar. You must apply for and receive an eVisa before you travel. Without it, you'll be denied boarding.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Myanmar. Airlines check this at check-in — if you're short, you won't be allowed to fly.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Myanmar eVisa website (evisa.moip.gov.mm). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive the eVisa by email — print it out and keep a digital copy on your phone.
2
Prepare your documents for arrival
Before you fly, gather: your printed eVisa, passport (6+ months validity), return/onward ticket, and first night hotel booking. Keep them in your hand luggage — you'll need them at check-in and immigration.
3
Arrive at Yangon, Mandalay, or Naypyidaw airport
Most international flights land at Yangon International Airport. Follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Foreign Passports'. Join the queue for eVisa holders — it's usually separate from visa-on-arrival. Hand over your passport, eVisa printout, and boarding pass. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking — have them ready.
4
Get your passport stamped and collect luggage
The officer will stamp your passport with an entry permit valid for the duration of your eVisa (typically 28 days). After that, head to baggage claim, then customs. Keep your passport and eVisa safe — you'll need them when you leave.
