Kenya passport holders need an eVisa to enter Tajikistan in 2026. The application is done entirely online before you travel, and the process is straightforward if you have your documents ready.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Tajikistan eVisa at evisa.tj at least 3 working days before departure. The eVisa is single-entry, valid for up to 90 days from issue, and costs around $50 USD. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — border officers will stamp it on arrival.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have at least 6 months validity
Your Kenyan passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Tajikistan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Dushanbe International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone. Without one, you risk being refused entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from a host in Tajikistan. Officers may ask for it during the visa-on-arrival process or at passport control. A simple booking confirmation from Booking.com or Agoda works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have at least $500 USD in cash or a bank statement showing sufficient funds for your stay. Tajikistan is a cash-heavy country — credit cards are rarely accepted outside Dushanbe. Officers rarely ask, but it's better to have it.Recommended
Register within 3 days if staying long
If you're staying more than 10 working days, you must register with OVIR within 3 days of arrival. Hotels usually handle this, but if you're in a private home, you must do it yourself. Unregistered stays can lead to fines up to $400 and problems when leaving.
Keep your eVisa accessible
Print a copy of your eVisa and also save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at immigration and possibly at hotel check-in.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.tj, fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $50-70 depending on processing speed) and submit. You'll get a confirmation email.
2
Wait for approval
Standard processing takes 3-5 working days. Check your email (including spam) for the eVisa PDF. Print a copy and save it on your phone.
3
Prepare your documents for the border
At the airport in Dushanbe or at any land border, present your passport, printed eVisa, return ticket, and hotel booking. The officer will stamp you in. Keep your eVisa with you during your stay.
4
Register with OVIR if staying more than 10 days
If you're staying longer than 10 working days, your hotel or host must register you with the local migration office (OVIR) within 3 days of arrival. If you're in a private home, you need to do it yourself. Failing to register can cause fines or problems when leaving.
