Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application

Valid passport
Must be valid for 6 months beyond stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Tajikistan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Dushanbe airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Border officials may ask where you're staying. Carry a hotel booking confirmation or an invitation letter from your host. A printed copy is safest, but a phone screenshot works too.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
You may be asked to show you have enough money for your stay. Carry a bank statement or a credit card with a visible limit. No specific minimum amount is published, but $50–$100 per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Register within 10 days
If you stay longer than 10 days, you must register with the OVIR (immigration office). Hotels usually do this automatically, but if you're staying in a private home, you need to do it yourself. Fines for non-registration can be up to $400.
GBAO permit required for Pamir Highway
If you're planning to travel to the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (including the Pamir Highway), you need a separate GBAO permit. Get it in Dushanbe before you head east. Cost is about $20 USD.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to https://www.evisa.tj/ and fill out the application. You'll need a digital passport photo, a scan of your passport bio page, and a credit/debit card for payment. Processing takes 3–5 business days. The eVisa is sent by email as a PDF.
2
Print your eVisa and pack documents
Print a paper copy of the eVisa and save a digital copy on your phone. Also print or save your return ticket, hotel booking, and insurance certificate. Keep them together in a folder.
3
Arrive at Dushanbe International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. Join the queue for foreign passports. Have your passport, eVisa printout, and boarding pass ready. The officer will stamp your passport and return it. The whole process usually takes 10–20 minutes.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim. Then walk through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're now in Tajikistan.
