What happens at the border

1
Check your passport validity
Make sure your passport has at least 6 months of validity left from the day you plan to enter South Korea. If it expires sooner, renew it first — the embassy will reject an application with an insufficiently valid passport.
2
Prepare your documents
Gather: completed visa application form, passport photos (35x45mm, white background), flight itinerary, hotel booking, bank statements showing sufficient funds, and a cover letter explaining your travel purpose. Check the specific embassy website for any additional requirements.
3
Submit application online and book appointment
Go to www.visa.go.kr, fill out the form, and pay the fee. Then book an appointment at the Korean embassy in Nur-Sultan or the consulate in Almaty. Walk-ins are not accepted.
4
Attend the interview
Show up at the embassy on time with all original documents and photocopies. You'll submit biometrics (fingerprints and photo). The officer may ask about your travel plans, job, and ties to Kazakhstan.
5
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 5–10 business days, but can take longer during peak seasons. Track your application status online using the reference number from your submission.
6
Collect your passport
Once approved, you'll get a visa sticker in your passport. Collect it in person or arrange courier delivery if the embassy offers it. Check the visa validity dates and entry conditions immediately.

However, there is a visa-free transit program for certain nationalities, but Kazakhstan is not currently included. You must obtain a C-3 visa before travel if transiting through a Korean airport.

Exceptions & conditions
  • Holders of valid visas for the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or Schengen states may be eligible for visa-free transit (up to 30 days) if transiting through Korea to/from those countries, but this is subject to change and must be confirmed with the Korean embassy.
