Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
New Zealand visa application
Visa required
Kazakhstan passport holders need a visa before traveling to New Zealand. Apply online at the New Zealand Immigration website — processing takes 20 to 25 days for most visitor visa applications. You will need to upload your passport scan, travel itinerary, and proof of funds as part of the application.Apply for visaRequired
Valid passport
Original passport
Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your intended departure date from New Zealand. Immigration officers at Auckland and Christchurch check this strictly — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration at Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch always asks for a return or onward ticket. Budget airlines like Jetstar and Air New Zealand check this at check-in too. A bus or ferry ticket to Australia counts as onward travel.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel bookings or invitation letter
Have your first night's hotel booking or a letter of invitation from your host ready. Immigration officers rarely ask for it, but if you arrive without a clear place to stay, they may question your itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statements or cash
Carry bank statements showing at least NZD 1,000 per month of your stay, or a credit card with sufficient limit. Immigration officers at Auckland have denied entry to travelers who could not show they could support themselves.Recommended
No visa-on-arrival — apply well in advance
Kazakhstani passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in New Zealand. You must have a valid visitor visa before you board your flight. Processing can take 2–4 weeks, so apply at least 2 months before your trip.
Transit visa required even if staying airside
If you have a layover in New Zealand and don't plan to leave the airport, you still need a Transit Visa. The NZeTA is not available for Kazakhstani passports. Apply for a Transit Visa through Immigration New Zealand — it's free.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a Visitor Visa online
Go to the Immigration New Zealand website and create an account. Fill out the visitor visa application form. Upload your passport scan, photo, travel itinerary, proof of funds, and accommodation details. Pay the fee (around NZD $246 for a standard visitor visa). Submit and wait for a decision — usually 2–4 weeks.
2
Receive your visa and check details
Once approved, you'll get an eVisa by email. Check that your name, passport number, and validity dates are correct. Print a copy and save a PDF on your phone.
3
Prepare your arrival documents
Before you fly, gather: your passport (valid 6+ months), printed eVisa, return ticket, first-night accommodation booking, and travel insurance certificate. Keep them in your carry-on.
4
Arrive at a New Zealand airport
You'll land at Auckland (AKL), Christchurch (CHC), Wellington (WLG), or Queenstown (ZQN). Follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Border Control'. Join the queue for 'Foreign Passports'.
5
Present your documents to the immigration officer
Hand over your passport and eVisa. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, how long you're staying, where you're staying, and your return plans. Answer clearly. They may also ask to see your return ticket and accommodation booking.
6
Receive your entry stamp and proceed
If everything is in order, the officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the length of stay (usually up to 3 months, but check your visa conditions). You're free to collect your luggage and exit.
