Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire period you plan to stay in Tajikistan. Tajikistan does not require 6 months of remaining validity beyond your departure date, but airlines may enforce their own rules — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Tajikistan
Immigration officers at Dushanbe International Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host. Border officers rarely check this for visa-free Kazakh nationals, but having it avoids delays if asked.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
You may be asked to show you have enough cash or bank funds to cover your trip. There is no fixed minimum amount, but carrying around $50 USD per day or a credit card is a safe bet.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Tajikistan requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. If your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding or entry. No exceptions.
Register if staying over 10 days
If you plan to stay more than 10 days, you must register with the Migration Service. Hotels handle this automatically. If you're in private accommodation, visit the local OVIR office within 10 days of arrival. Failing to register can result in fines or problems when leaving.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Dushanbe International Airport (or land border)
Most travellers fly into Dushanbe. At the airport, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for Tajik citizens and foreigners. Join the foreigner queue.
2
Present your passport and ticket
Hand over your passport and your return/onward ticket (printed or on your phone). The officer will check your passport validity and stamp you in. No visa is needed.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, pick up your bags from the carousel, then walk through customs. You're free to go.
