Entry requirements

Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get a visa on arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR), Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), and other designated entry points. Pay the fee in cash (USD) — single entry is $50, multiple entry is $100. Have a passport photo ready.Check visa detailsRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your date of entry. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking. If you overstay, the fine is $200 per month.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration may ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have at least $200 in cash or a credit card statement showing available funds. Immigration rarely checks this, but it helps if questioned.Recommended
Cash only at visa counter
The visa on arrival fee must be paid in cash. No credit cards, no mobile payments. Bring USD in small denominations ($20s and $10s) — $50 and $100 bills are hard to break.
Keep your arrival card stub
When you go through passport control, the officer will give you a small stub from the arrival card. Don't lose it — you'll need to hand it back when you leave Tanzania.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the visa-on-arrival counter
After landing at Julius Nyerere International Airport (Dar es Salaam), Kilimanjaro International Airport, or any land border, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. Join the queue — it can take 15–45 minutes depending on flight volume.
2
Present your documents and pay the fee
Hand over your passport, completed arrival card (given on the plane), and passport photo if you have one. Tell the officer you want a single-entry or multiple-entry visa. Pay the fee in USD cash. They'll process and hand back your passport with the visa sticker.
3
Proceed to passport control
Take your passport with the visa sticker to the main immigration desk. The officer will stamp you in. Keep the arrival card stub — you'll need it when leaving.

No. The visa on arrival is not extendable. If you need to stay longer than the standard 90 days, you must apply for a different visa type before travel or leave and re-enter.
Visa on arrival is available at all major land borders, including Namanga (from Kenya), Sirari (from Kenya), and Tunduma (from Zambia). The process is the same — same fee, same documents. Expect a smaller queue but less English signage.
Yes, if you are arriving from a country with yellow fever risk. Kazakhstan is not a risk country, but if you've recently traveled to a risk area (e.g., parts of South America or Africa), you'll need the vaccine certificate. Otherwise, it's not required for direct travel from Kazakhstan.
Yes, at major seaports like Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar. Same process and fee. Have your documents ready before disembarking.
You will be denied a visa on arrival and refused entry. Renew your passport before traveling. No exceptions.
Yes, Tanzania offers an e-visa for some nationalities, but for Kazakhstan passport holders, the visa on arrival is the standard and most straightforward method. The e-visa is not faster or cheaper — stick with on-arrival unless you have a specific reason.
