Laos passport holders need an eVisa to enter the United Arab Emirates in 2026. The process is entirely online through the official ICA portal, and you must apply before you travel. Plan ahead — processing takes a few days, and you'll need a passport valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
You need an eVisa to enter the UAE. Apply through the ICA Smart Services portal at smartservices.ica.gov.ae. Processing takes 2–5 working days, and the visa is linked electronically to your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into the UAE. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. If you don't have one, you may be refused entry and sent back on the next flight.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Have a hotel booking or a letter of invitation from your host ready. Officers sometimes ask for it, especially if you're arriving without a pre-arranged tour or family visit.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry evidence of sufficient funds — a bank statement or credit card showing at least AED 3,000–5,000 (approx. $800–$1,400 USD) for your stay. Not always checked, but better to have it.Recommended
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your planned entry date. If it expires sooner, your eVisa will be rejected. Check your passport now — if it's close to expiring, renew it before applying.
eVisa is the only option
Laos passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in the UAE. You must apply for an eVisa online before you travel. Do not book non-refundable flights until your eVisa is approved.
Keep digital copies handy
Save your eVisa, passport, return ticket, and hotel booking as PDFs on your phone. Screenshots work too. Immigration officers may ask to see them, and having them ready speeds things up.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your eVisa online
Go to the UAE's official ICA smart services portal (smartservices.ica.gov.ae) and fill out the eVisa application. Upload a digital passport photo and a copy of your passport data page. Pay the fee online — expect around 100-150 AED depending on processing speed. You'll receive the approved eVisa by email within 2-5 business days.
2
Prepare your documents for departure
Print or save digital copies of your approved eVisa, passport (with 6+ months validity), return ticket, and hotel booking confirmation. Keep them in a folder on your phone or in your carry-on. Immigration at Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Sharjah airports will ask to see these.
3
Arrive at a UAE airport and go through immigration
When you land, follow signs to 'Arrivals' and join the queue for 'Foreign Passports'. Hand over your passport and printed eVisa. The officer may ask to see your return ticket and hotel booking. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport and let you through. The whole process usually takes 10-20 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, head to the baggage claim carousel for your flight. Then proceed through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). Exit into the arrivals hall where taxis, ride-hailing, and metro are available.

Frequently asked questions

No. Laos passport holders are not eligible for a visa on arrival. You must apply for an eVisa online before you travel. The eVisa is processed by the UAE's Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICA).
Processing typically takes 2 to 5 business days. Apply at least a week before your departure to be safe. The fee is around 100-150 AED (about 25-40 USD), depending on the processing speed you choose.
You'll need a passport valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date, a digital passport photo, a copy of your passport data page, and proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation). You may also need a return ticket and travel insurance.
The standard eVisa is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a new visa or a different visa type before your current one expires. Overstaying can result in fines.
Yes, immigration officers may ask to see your return or onward ticket. It's a standard requirement for most visitors. Keep a printed copy or a screenshot on your phone.
Travel insurance is not always required for entry, but it is strongly recommended. Medical costs in the UAE are very high — a hospital stay can cost hundreds of dollars per day. Many eVisa applications also ask for proof of insurance.
If your eVisa is rejected, you'll receive a notification with a reason. Common reasons include incomplete documents, incorrect information, or a passport with insufficient validity. You can reapply after correcting the issue. There is no formal appeal process, but you can contact ICA support for guidance.
