Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Jordan. Jordan does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but airlines may enforce their own rules — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Jordan
Immigration officers at Queen Alia International Airport and the Aqaba border crossing routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward ticket ready — budget airlines check this before boarding.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital hotel reservation for your first few nights. If staying with friends or family, have their name, address, and phone number written down — border officers sometimes ask for this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have access to around 500 JOD (about $700 USD) in cash, credit card, or bank statement. Immigration rarely asks for it, but having it ready avoids delays if questioned.Recommended
Travel insurance is not mandatory but strongly recommended
Jordan's healthcare system charges upfront for treatment. A simple ER visit can cost $200–500. A hospital stay for a few days can easily hit $2,000+. Insurance like SafetyWing or World Nomads covers this.
Overstaying your 90 days
There's no grace period. Overstay by even one day and you'll face a fine of about 1.5 JOD per day and a possible entry ban. Set a calendar reminder to leave before day 90.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) or land border
At Amman airport, follow signs to 'Arrivals' then 'Passport Control'. At land borders like the King Hussein Bridge, go to the immigration hall. Have your passport ready.
2
Present your passport at the immigration counter
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your validity and may ask for your return ticket or accommodation. Answer clearly. They'll stamp you in.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, head to baggage claim (if flying), then walk through 'Nothing to Declare' or 'Goods to Declare' as needed. You're in.
