Sri Lankan passport holders need an eVisa to enter Myanmar in 2026. The eVisa covers tourism or business visits and must be approved before travel. Apply online at least a week before your departure.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Myanmar eVisa at the official Ministry of Immigration portal. Processing takes 3–5 business days, and you'll receive an approval letter by email. Print the letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Yangon and Mandalay airports will check it before issuing your visa sticker.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
6 months validity required
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Myanmar. Airlines at Colombo (CMB) check this strictly — they will deny boarding if your passport expires sooner.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Yangon International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return flight. Budget airlines flying into Myanmar also check this at check-in — have your booking confirmation ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a printed hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host in Myanmar. Immigration may ask for it at the counter, especially if you're staying more than a few days.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient cash or card
Carry at least $300 USD in cash or have a credit/debit card with available balance. Immigration rarely checks this for short visits, but it's a formal requirement under Myanmar's visa rules.Recommended
eVisa is not extendable
The tourist eVisa gives you 28 days, and you cannot extend it. If you overstay, you'll face fines and potential trouble at departure. Plan your itinerary to leave before your visa expires.
Keep your departure slip
When you enter Myanmar, immigration will give you a small card (departure slip). Don't lose it — you'll need to hand it back when you leave. If you lose it, expect delays and a fee at the airport.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to https://evisa.moip.gov.mm/ and fill out the application. You'll need your passport details, travel dates, and accommodation info. Pay the fee (around $50 USD for tourism) with a credit card. Processing takes 3–5 business days, sometimes faster.
2
Receive and save your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get an email with your eVisa PDF. Print a paper copy and also save it on your phone. You'll show it at check-in and at immigration in Myanmar.
3
Arrive at Yangon or Mandalay airport
Most flights land at Yangon International Airport (RGN) or Mandalay International Airport (MDL). Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' immigration. Have your passport, eVisa, and boarding pass ready.
4
Go through immigration
Hand over your passport and eVisa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking. Answer clearly. They'll stamp you in — usually for 28 days. Keep the stamped card they give you (it's your departure slip).
5
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. There's a customs declaration if you have items to declare. Otherwise, walk through the green channel and you're out.

Frequently asked questions

Typically 3–5 business days, but it can be faster. Apply at least a week before your flight to be safe. The fee is around $50 USD for a tourist eVisa, paid online by credit card.
No, the eVisa is not extendable. You must leave before your 28 days are up. Overstaying can result in fines and complications. If you need more time, you'd have to exit and re-enter with a new eVisa.
Rejections are rare but can happen if your passport has less than 6 months validity, you have a criminal record, or your application has errors. The fee is non-refundable. You can reapply with corrected info.
If you're staying airside and not passing through immigration, you don't need a visa. But if you plan to leave the airport or have a long layover, you'll need an eVisa. Check with your airline for transit rules.
No, the eVisa is only valid for entry at Yangon, Mandalay, or Naypyidaw international airports. Land border crossings require a different visa type. If you're arriving by land, you need to apply for a visa at a Myanmar embassy.
Your passport with the eVisa, your return ticket (printed or on phone), and proof of accommodation for your first night. The officer may also ask for travel insurance, but it's not mandatory. Be polite and answer clearly.
Check your government's travel advisories before booking. Myanmar has experienced political unrest and conflict in some regions. Stick to major tourist areas like Yangon, Bagan, and Mandalay, and avoid border regions. Travel insurance with evacuation coverage is strongly recommended.
