What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Dushanbe International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. The counter is usually before the main passport control queue. There's a separate desk for visa issuance.
2
Fill out the visa application form
You'll be given a short form asking for your name, passport details, purpose of visit, and intended length of stay. Fill it in with a pen (bring one just in case).
3
Submit documents and pay the fee
Hand over your passport, completed form, and the visa fee in USD cash. The officer will process your visa and stick it into your passport. This usually takes 5–15 minutes.
4
Proceed to passport control
Once you have the visa sticker, go to the main passport control queue. Present your passport and visa. The officer may ask about your accommodation and return ticket. Answer clearly.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to enter Tajikistan.

Frequently asked questions

Visa on arrival is only available at Dushanbe International Airport. If you're entering by land from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, or Afghanistan, you must get a visa in advance from a Tajik embassy or apply for an e-visa.
The standard visa on arrival is usually valid for up to 45 days. The exact duration is at the officer's discretion. If you need longer, you can apply for an extension at the OVIR office in Dushanbe.
Yes, but you must apply before your current visa expires. Go to the OVIR (Office of Visas and Registration) in Dushanbe. Extensions are typically granted for up to 30 additional days. Bring your passport, a passport photo, and the fee (around $20–$30 USD).
You must pay the visa fee in US dollars. There are no ATMs or currency exchange counters before immigration. If you arrive without USD, you may be refused entry. Bring enough cash from your home country.
If you stay more than 10 days, you must register with the OVIR. Your hotel or guesthouse will usually do this for you. If you're staying with friends or in a private apartment, you must register yourself. Failure to register can result in fines when you leave.
Yes, Tajikistan offers an e-visa for many nationalities, including Moroccans. The e-visa costs around $50 and takes 2–3 business days to process. It's a good backup if you want to avoid the queue at the airport. Apply at evisa.tj.
You will be denied boarding by the airline and refused entry at immigration. Renew your passport before traveling. There are no exceptions.
