Madagascan passport holders need an eVisa to visit India. You must apply online before you travel — there's no visa on arrival for your passport. As of 2026, the eVisa covers tourism, business, and medical visits.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for an Indian eVisa at indianvisaonline.gov.in at least 4 days before departure. Fees range from $25 to $80 USD depending on the visa type (tourist, business, medical). Approval usually comes within 72 hours — print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have at least 6 months validity
Your Madagascar passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of arrival in India. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from India
Immigration officers at Indian airports routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready — they may deny entry if you cannot show you are leaving within the eVisa validity period.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel reservation or a letter from your host in India. Immigration may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card ready. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need to show you have enough money for your stay — roughly $50 USD per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
eVisa is not for land borders
You can only enter India by air or at designated seaports with an eVisa. If you plan to arrive overland from Nepal or Bangladesh, you need a regular sticker visa from an Indian embassy.
Keep your eVisa PDF handy
Print two copies — one for your bag, one for your wallet. Also save it on your phone. Airlines check it at check-in, and immigration officers scan the barcode.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa. Fill in your personal details, passport info, and travel plans. Upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $10–$80 depending on duration) with a credit card. You'll get a confirmation email within 72 hours — usually faster.
2
Print your eVisa and pack documents
Once approved, print the eVisa PDF. Also print or save your return ticket, hotel booking, and insurance. Keep them together in a folder or a phone album.
3
Arrive at an Indian airport
eVisa works at 28 airports including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Goa. At immigration, join the 'eVisa' queue. Hand over your passport and printed eVisa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel address. Answer clearly. You'll get a stamp and a 60-day stay (double-entry for tourism).
4
Get a local SIM or eSIM
After clearing customs, buy a prepaid SIM at airport kiosks from Airtel, Jio, or Vi. You'll need your passport and a photo. Alternatively, install an Airalo eSIM before you fly — it activates on landing and saves queuing.
