Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Singapore. Immigration officers at Changi Airport check this strictly — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Singapore
You need a confirmed onward or return ticket showing you leave Singapore within 30 days. Airlines at departure check this before issuing your boarding pass — budget carriers are especially strict.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host ready. Immigration officers at Changi may ask for it if you look like you're staying with friends or have no fixed address.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Carry at least SGD 1,500 (or equivalent in foreign currency) in cash or have a bank statement showing available funds. Officers rarely ask, but if you can't show means to support yourself, they can deny entry.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Singapore requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you won't be allowed to fly.
Overstaying is serious
Overstaying even by a day can result in fines, a ban from re-entering Singapore, and possible detention. Set a reminder to leave before your 30 days are up.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before you fly
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry), print or save your return ticket and first night's accommodation confirmation. No visa application needed.
2
Arrive at Changi Airport (or other entry point)
At immigration, join the 'All Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and boarding pass. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, where you're staying, and when you're leaving. Answer clearly.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 30-day visit pass. Check the stamp before walking away — it shows your allowed stay until date. Keep the disembarkation card (if issued) with your passport.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free entry is not extendable. If you overstay, you face fines, possible detention, and a ban from re-entering. If you need more time, you must leave Singapore before your 30 days are up and re-enter (but immigration may question frequent back-to-back visits).
No. Singapore no longer requires a paper disembarkation card for most nationalities, including Madagascar. You just hand over your passport at immigration.
You can't extend the visa-free stay. For longer visits, you'd need to apply for a visa or a different pass (e.g., work pass, student pass) before travel. Check with the nearest Singapore embassy or the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) website.
Yes. The 30-day visa-free entry applies at all Singapore checkpoints — Changi Airport, Seletar Airport, and the land checkpoints at Woodlands and Tuas. Same rules apply: valid passport, onward ticket, and accommodation proof.
If immigration is not satisfied with your documents or purpose of visit, they can refuse entry. You'll be put on the next flight back to your origin at your own expense. Common reasons: no return ticket, insufficient funds, or suspicious travel history.
No. If you're transiting and not passing through immigration (staying airside), you don't need a visa. But if you plan to leave the transit area, even for a few hours, you'll need to clear immigration under the visa-free entry rules.
No, it's not required by immigration. But Singapore has expensive healthcare — a simple hospital visit can cost hundreds of dollars. It's strongly recommended to have insurance that covers medical emergencies.
