Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Thailand
Your passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from the day you leave Thailand. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Thailand within 14 days
Immigration officers at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave Thailand within 14 days. Budget airlines are especially strict — have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host address for your stay
Immigration may ask where you are staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a host's address and phone number written down. A booking printout or phone screenshot works.Recommended
Proof of funds
20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family
Officers can ask to see cash or a bank statement showing at least 20,000 THB (about $550 USD) per person or 40,000 THB per family. Carry a mix of cash and a recent bank statement.Recommended
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)Thailand Digital Arrival Card — a free 2-minute online pre-registration at tdac.immigration.go.th. Not mandatory, but gets you through the immigration queue faster.
Optional online pre-registration to speed up immigration
Register at tdac.immigration.go.th before your flight — enter your passport details, flight info, and accommodation. You get a QR code that lets you use the fast lane at immigration. Takes 2 minutes and is free.Register for TDACOptional
Overstay penalties are strict
Even one day overstay costs 500 THB. If you overstay more than 90 days, you face a 1-year re-entry ban. Set a reminder on your phone for your departure date.
TDAC saves time at the airport
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card is free and optional, but completing it before you fly can cut your immigration queue time significantly. Do it at tdac.immigration.go.th.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before travel
Check your passport validity (6+ months), book a return/onward ticket, and reserve your first night's accommodation. Complete the TDAC online if you want to save time at the airport.
2
Arrive at Thai immigration counter
At Suvarnabhumi (BKK), Don Mueang (DMK), Phuket, or Chiang Mai airports, join the 'Foreign Passport' queue. Hand over your passport and boarding pass. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking — have them ready on your phone.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 14-day visa-free entry. Check the stamp before leaving the counter — ensure the date is correct. You'll then proceed to baggage claim.
4
Exit through customs
After baggage claim, walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel if you have no restricted items. If you're carrying more than 200 cigarettes, 1 liter of alcohol, or 20,000 USD in cash, use the red channel.
