Sri Lanka entry requirements for Malta passport holders
Maltese passport holders can get a visa on arrival in Sri Lanka for tourism or short business visits. This has been the case since 2026 — no advance application needed, just show up with the right documents.
Entry requirements
| Requirement | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Visa on arrival Apply at the airport upon arrival | Malta passport holders can get a visa on arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo. Have $40 USD in cash ready for the single-entry tourist visa, valid for 30 days. The visa counter is before immigration — follow the signs.Apply online | Required |
| Valid passport Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay | Sri Lanka strictly enforces the 6-month passport validity rule. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding. Carry a photocopy of the bio-data page as backup. | Required |
| Return or onward ticket Required for entry | Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel within 30 days. A printed flight itinerary or e-ticket works. If you are overlanding out, show a bus or train booking. | Required |
| Proof of accommodation Recommended to have handy | Officers rarely ask, but having a hotel booking confirmation or a letter of invitation from a host smooths things out. If you are staying with friends, get their contact details and address ready. | Recommended |
| Proof of funds Recommended to show you can cover your stay | No fixed amount is published, but carrying at least $500 USD in cash or a credit card statement showing available funds covers you. ATMs are widely available in Colombo and major towns. | Recommended |
