Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
6 months validity required
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Morocco. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they may check it before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or card balance
Have a bank statement or credit card showing you can cover your stay. There is no fixed minimum, but around 500 MAD per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Passport validity is critical
Airlines often deny boarding if your passport has less than 6 months validity. Check your passport's expiry date before booking. If it's close, renew first.
Keep a copy of your documents
Save a photo of your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation on your phone. Also email them to yourself. If your phone is lost or stolen, you'll have backup.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before flying
Make sure your passport has 6+ months validity and at least 1 blank page. Book a return ticket and your first night's accommodation. Save screenshots of everything on your phone.
2
Arrive at Moroccan airport
At Casablanca, Marrakech, or any other airport, follow signs to 'Passport Control' (not 'EU' or 'Diplomatic'). Join the queue for 'All Passports' or 'Non-EU'.
3
Present your passport and ticket
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with a 90-day entry.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, collect your bags from the carousel. Walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel unless you have goods to declare.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free stay is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you must leave Morocco before day 90 and re-enter. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban.
You'll likely be denied boarding by the airline. Renew your passport before traveling. Some airlines are strict, others less so, but it's not worth the risk.
If you're transiting through a Moroccan airport and not leaving the international transit area, you don't need a visa. But if you plan to enter the country (even for a few hours), the same visa-free rules apply.
Your passport, return ticket (printed or on phone), and first night's accommodation confirmation. Some travelers also carry travel insurance documents, but it's not mandatory.
Technically, the visa-free entry is for tourism only. Remote work is a gray area. If you're caught working for a Moroccan employer without a work permit, you could face fines or deportation. For short-term remote work, most travelers do it without issues, but it's not officially allowed.
Overstaying can result in a fine of about 200-300 MAD per day (roughly $20-30 USD) and a possible ban from re-entering Morocco for a period. Always leave before day 90.
The same rules apply as for mainland Morocco. Mexican passport holders can visit the Western Sahara region (controlled by Morocco) without a visa for up to 90 days. Just be aware that the political situation is sensitive, and travel advice may differ.
