Mexican passport holders can visit Norway for tourism or business stays up to 90 days without a visa. Starting in 2026, you can enter Norway and the Schengen Area visa-free, but you must meet a few entry requirements. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date and have a return ticket ready.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay in Norway
Your Mexican passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Norway. Norway does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but your airline may enforce this — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration at Oslo Airport will ask for proof of onward travel — a return flight to Mexico or a ticket to a third country. Budget airlines like Norwegian and Ryanair check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a printed or digital hotel reservation, Airbnb confirmation, or a letter from your host in Norway. Border officers rarely ask for it, but if they do, you need a clear address and dates.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least 500 NOK per day of your stay. Immigration rarely checks this for Mexican passport holders, but it helps if questioned.Recommended
Schengen 90/180 day rule applies
Your 90-day visa-free stay is for the entire Schengen Area, not just Norway. If you've already spent time in other Schengen countries (e.g., Spain, Italy) in the past 180 days, that time counts against your 90-day limit. Keep track of your days — overstaying can lead to fines and a re-entry ban.
No visa needed, but have documents ready
Even though you don't need a visa, immigration officers can still ask for proof of return ticket, accommodation, and funds. Have these ready on your phone or printed. It's rare to be asked, but better to be prepared.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before you fly
Check your passport is valid for 6+ months from arrival. Book your return ticket and first night's accommodation. Save screenshots of your flight booking and hotel confirmation on your phone. If you want insurance, buy it online before you go.
2
Arrive at Oslo Airport (or other entry point)
At Oslo Gardermoen Airport, follow signs to 'Passport Control' for non-EU arrivals. Join the queue for 'All Passports' or 'Non-EU' — it's usually separate from EU/EEA lines. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation booking ready.
3
Present your documents to the immigration officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: 'How long are you staying?', 'Where are you staying?', 'What's the purpose of your visit?'. Answer clearly and briefly. They may also ask to see your return ticket or hotel booking. They'll stamp your passport with the entry date and the number of days allowed (usually 90).
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then through customs (green channel for most tourists). You're now in Norway. Keep your passport handy — you may need it for hotel check-in or train tickets.

Frequently asked questions

You can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This is the same for all Schengen countries. If you've already spent time in other Schengen countries (e.g., France, Germany) in the past 180 days, that counts toward your 90-day limit.
No, the 90-day visa-free stay cannot be extended for tourism. If you need to stay longer for work, study, or family reasons, you must apply for a residence permit before your 90 days expire. Overstaying can result in fines, deportation, or a re-entry ban.
No, if you're transiting through a Norwegian airport and staying airside (not passing through passport control), you don't need a visa. But if you need to enter Norway (e.g., to switch airports or stay overnight), the same visa-free rules apply — up to 90 days.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry by Norwegian immigration. The 6-month validity rule is strictly enforced. If your passport has less than 6 months remaining, renew it before you travel.
No, the visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, and short-term visits only. If you plan to work (even remotely for a foreign company) or study for more than 90 days, you need the appropriate work or study permit. Check with the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) before you go.
No, for stays under 90 days, you do not need to register. If you stay longer than 90 days (with a permit), you must register with the local police within 90 days of arrival.
Contact the Mexican embassy in Oslo immediately. They can issue an emergency travel document. You'll also need to file a police report for the lost passport. Keep a photocopy or digital scan of your passport separately to speed up the process.
