Mexican passport holders need a visa to enter Taiwan in 2026. You must apply online before you travel — there is no visa-on-arrival or visa-waiver for Mexican citizens. Plan ahead, as processing can take up to two weeks.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Taiwan Visitor Visa (Resident Visa)
Apply at the Taiwan Embassy or Consulate in Mexico
You need a Taiwan Resident Visa (visa type: Visitor Visa) before travel. Submit your application at the Taiwan Embassy or Consulate in Mexico City. Processing takes 5–10 business days. You must provide a completed application form, passport photos, flight itinerary, hotel booking, and proof of sufficient funds (at least $1,000 USD per month of stay).Check visa requirementsRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay
Your Mexican passport must have at least 6 months of remaining validity from your departure date from Taiwan. Taiwan immigration strictly enforces this rule. Airlines also check this before boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for visa holders
Immigration officers at Taoyuan Airport will ask to see a confirmed return or onward flight ticket. This applies to all visa holders, including those with a Taiwan Visitor Visa. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to have hotel bookings ready
While not always checked, having a hotel reservation or an invitation letter from a host in Taiwan can speed up the visa application process and satisfy immigration officers. Keep a printed copy or digital confirmation.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to show financial means
Carry a bank statement showing at least $1,000 USD per month of your intended stay. Taiwan immigration may ask for proof of sufficient funds to cover your expenses. A credit card statement or cash in hand also works.Recommended
No visa on arrival for Mexican passport holders
Unlike some other nationalities, Mexican citizens cannot get a visa at the airport. You must have your visa approved before you fly. Airlines will check this before issuing your boarding pass.
Keep your visa certificate accessible
Print a copy of your visa approval email and also save a PDF on your phone. Immigration officers at Taoyuan Airport will ask to see it. Having both a physical and digital copy avoids problems if your phone dies.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your visa online
Go to visawebapp.boca.gov.tw, create an account, fill in your personal and travel details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $50 USD) by credit card. You'll receive a confirmation email with a reference number.
2
Wait for processing
Processing usually takes 5–10 business days. You can check the status online using your reference number. Once approved, you'll get a visa certificate via email — print it out and keep a digital copy on your phone.
3
Pack your documents
Before you leave, gather: your printed visa certificate, passport (valid 6+ months), return/onward ticket confirmation, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance details. Put them in a folder you can grab quickly at immigration.
4
Arrive at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE)
After landing, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' immigration. Join the queue for visa holders (not the e-gate or visa-waiver lines). Hand over your passport, visa certificate, and boarding pass. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying — answer clearly. They'll stamp you in, usually for the duration of your visa (up to 90 days).

Frequently asked questions

Processing usually takes 5–10 business days after you submit your online application. Apply at least 2 weeks before your trip to be safe. You can check the status on the visa application portal.
The visa fee is approximately $50 USD (around 1,600 TWD). You pay by credit card when you submit the online application. There are no additional fees at the airport.
No, the visa is not extendable. You must leave Taiwan before the expiry date stamped in your passport. Overstaying can result in fines and a ban from re-entry.
Officially, you may be asked to show you have enough money for your stay, but in practice it's rarely requested for short visits. Still, having a credit card or a few hundred USD in cash is a good idea.
You'll receive an email explaining the reason — common issues are incomplete forms, invalid passport, or insufficient travel history. You can reapply after fixing the problem. There's no appeal process, but you can contact the Taiwan embassy in Mexico for guidance.
Yes, you can enter at any international airport (Taoyuan, Kaohsiung, Taichung) or seaport (Keelung, Kaohsiung). The same visa rules apply everywhere. Just have your documents ready at the immigration counter.
If you're staying in the airport transit area and not passing through immigration, you don't need a visa. But if you plan to leave the airport (even for a few hours), you need a visa. Check with your airline for specific transit rules.
