Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay in Poland
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Poland. Unlike some countries, Poland does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date — just cover your stay. Airlines may still enforce the 6-month rule, so check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration at Warsaw Chopin Airport and other Polish entry points routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. This confirms you will leave the Schengen zone within your 90-day visa-free limit. A booked flight, bus, or train ticket out of the Schengen area works — just have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Polish border officers sometimes ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation email or a signed letter from a friend in Poland with their address is enough. Keep a copy on your phone or printed.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Poland can ask for evidence of sufficient funds — roughly 100 PLN (about $25 USD) per day of your stay. A recent bank statement, credit card with a decent limit, or a combination of cash and cards usually satisfies the officer. I have never been asked for this personally, but it is in the regulations.Recommended
Schengen area rules apply
Poland is part of the Schengen zone. Your 90-day visa-free stay counts across all 27 Schengen countries. Use the Schengen calculator to track your days.
Overstay penalties are real
Overstaying even a day can lead to a fine, deportation, and a ban from the Schengen area. Set a reminder to leave before day 90.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Polish border control
At Warsaw Chopin Airport, Kraków Airport, or any land border, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation address ready. The officer will check your passport, stamp it, and let you through. The process usually takes 1-2 minutes.
2
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry. Check the stamp is clear before leaving the counter. This stamp marks the start of your 90-day visa-free period.
3
Keep documents accessible
While in Poland, keep a copy of your passport, return ticket, and insurance on your phone. You may be asked to show them at random checks, especially near borders or airports.
