Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the period you plan to stay in Tajikistan. Airlines at check-in may ask for 6 months validity beyond your departure date, even though Tajikistan law does not require it.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Tajikistan
Immigration officers at Dushanbe International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight itinerary ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Border officers may ask where you are staying. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a host with their address and contact number works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers can request evidence of sufficient funds. Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least $50 USD per day of your stay.Recommended
Visa-free for 30 days only
Malaysian passport holders can stay up to 30 days without a visa. This is a single-entry arrangement — if you leave and re-enter, you get another 30 days. Overstaying even by a day can cause problems.
No pre-arrival registration needed
Unlike some nationalities, Malaysians do not need to register with Tajik migration authorities. Your entry stamp is all you need.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Dushanbe International Airport
Most travellers fly into Dushanbe (DYU). After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for Tajik citizens and foreigners. Join the foreigner queue.
2
Present your passport and ticket
Hand over your passport and any supporting documents (return ticket, hotel booking). The officer will check your passport validity, stamp you in, and return your passport. No visa or fee is required.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim. Then walk through customs (green channel for most tourists). You're free to enter Tajikistan.
