Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Taiwan. Taiwan does not require 6 months of remaining validity beyond your departure date, but some airlines may enforce this — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Taiwan
Immigration officers at Taoyuan Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight booking ready. Without one, you risk being denied boarding or entry.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital copy of your hotel reservation, hostel booking, or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement, credit card, or cash equivalent to roughly NT$10,000 per day of your stay. Immigration rarely checks, but budget airlines may ask at check-in.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Taiwan. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you won't be allowed to fly.
Keep a digital copy of your documents
Save screenshots of your return ticket, hotel booking, and passport info page on your phone. If you lose your passport or need to prove your travel plans, these copies are a lifesaver.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you leave, check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date), print or save your return ticket and first-night hotel booking, and consider getting travel insurance and a local eSIM.
2
Arrive at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) or other entry point
At the airport, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' or 'Arrivals' immigration counters. Have your passport, boarding pass, and any supporting documents ready.
3
Queue at immigration counter
Join the queue for foreign passport holders. When it's your turn, hand over your passport and boarding pass. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly and concisely.
4
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 30-day visa-free entry. Check the stamp to confirm the allowed stay period. Keep your passport safe.
5
Collect baggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're now free to explore Taiwan.
