Nigeria passport holders need a visa to enter Myanmar in 2026. The simplest option for tourism is an eVisa, which you apply for online before travel. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your entry date and have a return ticket ready.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
You need a visa to enter Myanmar. Apply online through the official Myanmar eVisa portal at least 3 business days before departure. The eVisa costs around $50 USD and is valid for 28 days from entry.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
6 months validity required
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Myanmar. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Yangon and Mandalay airports routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Without one, you may be refused entry or forced to buy a ticket at the airport.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host ready. Officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Carry at least $300 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration may ask how you plan to support yourself during your stay.Recommended
Yellow fever certificate required
If you're arriving from Nigeria, you must show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate at immigration. Without it, you could be denied entry or quarantined. Get the shot at least 10 days before you fly.
Cash is king in Myanmar
Credit cards are rarely accepted outside major hotels and restaurants in Yangon. Bring enough USD or Myanmar kyat (MMK) in cash for your stay. ATMs exist but are unreliable and charge high fees.
No visa-free transit
Nigeria passport holders transiting through Myanmar must obtain a transit visa before travel, even if staying airside. No visa-free transit is available. Apply at a Myanmar embassy before your trip.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your eVisa
Go to the official Myanmar eVisa website (evisa.moip.gov.mm) and fill out the application. Upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the $50 USD fee with a credit card. You'll usually get approval within 3 business days — print the approval letter and keep it with your passport.
2
Prepare your documents
Before you head to the airport, double-check: passport valid for 6+ months from your departure date, printed eVisa approval, return ticket confirmation, and first night's hotel booking. Take screenshots of everything on your phone as backup.
3
At the airport in Nigeria
At check-in, the airline will verify your passport validity and may ask to see your eVisa and return ticket. If anything is missing, they can refuse boarding. Allow extra time for document checks.
4
Arrival in Myanmar
At Yangon (RGN) or Mandalay (MDL) airport, join the 'eVisa' queue. Hand over your passport, eVisa printout, and arrival card (you'll get it on the plane). The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel address. Answer clearly. You'll get a 28-day stay stamp.
5
During your stay
If you want to stay longer than 28 days, visit the Yangon Immigration Office (No. 1, Thiri Mingalar Street, Kamayut Township) before your visa expires. You can extend by 14 days for a fee. Bring your passport, two passport photos, and the extension fee in cash.
