Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
You need an eVisa to enter Tajikistan. Apply at the official eVisa portal — processing takes 3 to 5 working days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your Nigerian passport must be valid for at least the length of your stay in Tajikistan. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by Tajik law, but airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Tajikistan
Immigration officers at Dushanbe airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host. Border officers may ask for it during the visa-on-arrival process or at passport control.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have bank statements or cash equivalent to at least $50 USD per day of your stay. Tajikistan is cash-heavy — bring US dollars or euros to exchange locally.Recommended
Registration deadline: 10 days
If you stay more than 10 calendar days, you must register with OVIR. Hotels do this automatically, but if you're in a private apartment, you have 3 days from arrival to register yourself. The fine for missing it is around 200 TJS (about $18 USD) and can cause problems when leaving.
eVisa is single-entry
The standard eVisa is single-entry only. If you leave Tajikistan (even for a day trip), you'll need a new visa to re-enter. Plan your itinerary accordingly.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to evisa.tj, fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive the approved eVisa by email.
2
Print your eVisa
Print two copies of the approved eVisa — one to hand over at immigration, one as backup. Keep a digital copy on your phone too.
3
Arrive at Dushanbe International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' immigration. Present your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in. The whole process usually takes 10–15 minutes.
4
Register with OVIR (if staying more than 10 days)
If you stay longer than 10 calendar days, your hotel or host must register you with the local OVIR office. If you're in a private apartment, you need to do it yourself within 3 days of arrival. Fines for missing registration start at around 200 TJS.
