Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Tanzania eVisa at visa.immigration.go.tz at least 2 weeks before departure. The standard single-entry tourist visa costs $50 USD and is valid for 90 days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Julius Nyerere Airport will stamp you in.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your Nigerian passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Tanzania. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot on your phone showing your departure flight within the eVisa validity period.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Tanzania. Immigration may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card showing access to at least $200 USD per day of your stay. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need to demonstrate you can cover expenses.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine required
If you're flying from Nigeria, you must show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) at immigration. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated on arrival.
Keep digital copies handy
Save your eVisa, passport, and booking confirmations as PDFs on your phone. Airport Wi-Fi can be spotty, so download them before you fly.
