Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
You get a free 30-day visa on arrival at Queen Alia International Airport, Aqaba, and most land borders. Bring a printed hotel booking and 50 JOD in cash if you want to extend at a police station — extensions cost 20 JOD per month.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Jordan
Jordan enforces the 6-month validity rule strictly at check-in and at the border. If your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for visa-on-arrival entry
Immigration officers at Queen Alia routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a bus/ticket out of Jordan ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry a hotel booking confirmation
Border officers sometimes ask for your first night's hotel booking. A printed confirmation from Booking.com or a hostel reservation works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to show you can support yourself
Officials rarely ask, but having 500 JOD in cash or a credit card statement helps if questioned. ATMs at the airport dispense JOD.Recommended
Jordan Pass saves you the visa fee
If you buy the Jordan Pass online before you arrive and stay at least 3 nights, the 40 JOD visa fee is waived. The pass itself costs €70–€100 and covers entry to most major sites. Worth it if you're doing Petra, Jerash, Wadi Rum, etc.
Cash only at visa counter
The visa on arrival fee must be paid in cash — Jordanian Dinars or sometimes USD. There are ATMs in the arrivals hall, but they can run out. Bring some cash just in case.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the border
At Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' counters. Same process at the King Hussein Bridge (Allenby) from the West Bank or the Aqaba land border from Israel.
2
Fill out the arrival card
You'll get a small card on the plane or at the counter. Fill in your details — name, passport number, flight number, accommodation address.
3
Pay the visa fee
Hand over your passport and the fee (cash only, Jordanian Dinars or sometimes USD). In 2026, the standard single-entry fee is 40 JOD (about €55). Keep the receipt.
4
Get your passport stamped
The officer will stamp your passport with the visa. Check the date — it's usually valid for 30 days from entry. Then head to baggage claim.
